Lattimore Place

One of the roads in the NTID complex, Lattimore Place is named for Samuel A. Lattimore, who was a professor of chemistry at the University of Rochester and a chemist for the NYS Department of Agriculture. He was widely known in scientific circles and respected for his superior scientific attainments.

He strongly believed that a technical education was necessary for all workmen who intended to engage in manufacturing. He was one of the charter members of the board of directors of the Mechanics Institute.

In 1891 he assisted with the merger of the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute. He served as a trustee for 28 years.
